Generac Mobile®, the world leader in rental products such as lighting towers, power generators, and industrial dust fighters, has released its latest innovation in the field of portable dust fighters: the new Power Jet.

The new Power Jet joins the DF (Dust Fighter) product line, a series of dust suppression units designed to control and reduce dust and particulate matters, in many different environments and applications, such as mines, quarries, demolition sites, and crushing plants.

Generac Mobile® has responded to the market’s call for a portable dust control unit, with compact dimensions and a simple manual control panel that allows any operator to easily set up and operate the machine in just a few minutes, perfect for rental and mobile activities. Power Jet is in fact equipped with an integrated high-pressure pump, able to increase the water pressure up to 75 bar. This allows the unit’s nozzles to spray a high-pressure flow of fine mist capable of capturing and breaking down dust particles up to 30 meters!

The power needed to operate the pump is provided by an integrated 6.2 kW single-phase diesel generator, driven by a powerful and compact Yanmar L100V6 engine (Stage V), energy-saving, air-cooled. The new Power Jet has been designed and developed with a built-in off-road portable trolley with two massive wheels and two ergonomic handles that, thanks to the lightweight of the machine, makes the Power Jet easily repositionable anywhere by a single operator.

All the mechanical elements of the new PowerJet are made in Italy, contributing to make this model an appreciated and high-quality product, ideal to withstand the severity of modern job site conditions and industrial applications.

Generac Mobile® has recently introduced a new compact model of Dust Fighter, the DF 4500. This new model is part of the current Dust Fighter range between the “mini” (DF Smart and DF Mini) and the “midi” (DF 7500, DF 15000, DF 20000) segments. With this model, Generac Mobile® aims to bridge the gap that currently exists between the two application segments.

The “mini” models are suitable for use on small sites; the “midi” models are suitable for construction sites, quarries and other medium-sized work areas; finally, the “large” models are designed for use on large mining plants and quarries.

Despite being larger than the “mini” models, the DF 4500 is so compact that it can be positioned anywhere and operated by a single operator and at the same time is able to produce a sufficient flow of nebulized water to cover considerable distances. The reach of the DF 4500 is in fact more than 30 meters and thanks to the rotation system, manual or automatic, this model can cover an area of 2600 m2.

The DF 4500 is equipped with a manual or electric tilting system, to better direct the flow of nebulized water, and also with a slow speed trailer (for construction sites), an integrated control panel and the possibility to add a remote control.

As we approach a humid summer, dust becomes a major issue across events, rail, demolition, recycling and construction sites. If you are looking at ways in which you can tame the dust this season, we suggest you create a dust suppression strategy.

We’ve all heard the saying ‘fail to plan and you plan to fail’ well the same principle can be applied with dust suppression. Many people think that a one size fits all approach will work. You find the biggest and best dust suppression machine and then wheel it into position. Wrong! This results in costly and unnecessary operational costs.

So, here are our top tips on how to select the best models.

  • Get your objectives right

With several models and variations available, the first thing you need to do is understand why you need dust suppression and what you are intending to use it for?

For example: are you looking at keeping event guests cool, if so a smaller unit like our DF Smart will be put to good use to create a fine spray and keep people cool. If you need a more robust dust suppression solution for rail ballast, then you may consider an automatic solution such as our DF 7500 MPT which can operate independently. If you are undertaking demolition works and rebuilding an area, then several dust suppression solutions may need to be deployed to manage the affected area.

Take a look at our Skanska story and see how several dust suppression units were used on the refurbishment of Waterloo Station.

  • How far do you need to cover?

Once you have sat with your team and agreed what you need the dust suppression unit for, you then need to look at the area you want to cover. Do you need a long-range spray up to 20m, or, do you need it more isolated?  Each dust suppression unit can cover areas between 5m and up to 120m. It’s no good if the dust suppression unit misses the dust cloud!

  • Automatic Operation

Do you want the dust suppression unit to perform automatically saving you time and manpower? This will be based on your site objectives. Many rail and construction companies require an automatic dust suppression unit with auto-rotation functionality so the unit can do its job without interference.

  • Specialist requirements

We appreciate that every site is different and will have different operational requirements. As such, it’s important you sit with your dust suppression team and agree if you need any additional features to help the unit perform. In Russia, we supplied several dust suppression units to a leading Russian mining company and the units had to operate in an extreme mining environment where temperatures dropped as low as -30℃.

If you are looking for a reliable and efficient dust suppression unit for your summer months, then we have global dust suppression team who can work with you to set out and scope out your project to ensure you get the right kit to fit your project requirements.

Skanska chooses Generac Mobile® Dust Suppression Range for high profile rail infrastructure projects

Generac Mobile products has supplied its market leading Dust Fighter range to the high-profile rail platform upgrade at Waterloo this summer and due to performance has also been added to the preferred product listing by Skanska for future rail and infrastructure upgrades.

Working in partnership with Skanska, who through an Alliance of companies (AECOM, Colas Rail, Mott MacDonald & Network Rail) were awarded the contract for the design and improvements works to complete a package of complex upgrade works at Waterloo Station and along the Wessex route., The Alliance selected a number of short to long dust fighter units including the market leading MPT 7500 with 2000 litre tank and 22kVA generator.

The Dust Fighter Range from Generac Mobile® was chosen for its versatility and breadth of application which was a pre-requisite to supply and support the upgrade at Waterloo.

A key Health &Safety requirement, the dust fighter units were deployed to control, cover and reduce dust contamination into neighbouring platforms, operational train routes and passenger terminals.

The innovative and robust DF 7500 Mobile Power Tank (MPT) was selected to dampen down dust particles as ballasts were being loaded and unloaded into the freight wagons and cover an area of up to 40m.  The DF 7500 MPT is an ‘all-in-one solution’ since it equips a DF 7500 dust control unit combined with a 2000 litre stainless steel water tank and to a 20kW power generator. It is a completely independent machine usable in every kind of circumstance, even in remote areas, and ideal for under and over ground rail projects.

Neighbouring platforms were supported by the compact DF Mini units which were placed close to active platforms to avoid contamination and improve the general environment for passengers and operational trains. These are ideal units for indoor use due to the small upright positioning and 70 litre tank capacity.

For residents, offices and buildings close to the station, dust particles were dampened and controlled by the DF Smart range to reduce dust particles in the atmosphere and provided coverage of up to 13m.

Unlike traditional dust suppression systems, the Generac dust control units provide operators with a range of options based on the performances and the size of the area which require coverage by the nebulized water. The nebulized water used in the units is essential to capture and easily combine with dust particles to drag them to the ground.

Such a system is more effective and sustainable, as the dust can be suppressed quicker, reducing water consumption and preventing muddy work areas created by pools of water from traditional methods.

Beat Nowrooz, Area Sales Manager said: “To support this scale of project it was essential to combine product efficiency with onsite practicality.

Unlike traditional methods of dust suppression such as a water hose, which require one man to operate the unit until the dust has settled, our products are automatic and can be controlled remotely therefore making it easier for onsite teams to manage.

This was essential for such a project as resources needed to be focused and targeted in key build areas given the tight timeframe for delivery, rather than having teams standing around to operate auxiliary machines and equipment.

The planned upgrades at Waterloo are part of a long-term project focused on modifications at the station and improvements to the outlying stations and rail systems which could see capacity increased for up to 45,000 passengers at Waterloo and new, longer rolling stock trains operate across routes in the South West.

Tim Ryall from Skanska said: “Complex and fast-moving projects such as this need suppliers who can adopt a solutions focused approach and we have been impressed by the level and understanding of our needs shown but Generac Mobile® which was matched by the unrivalled performance and reliability of its products.”

The dust suppression systems of Generac Mobile® are suitable for a variety of applications, such as demolition works, mining sites, odour suppression in waste dumps, aggregate production or recycling, environmental repairs and much more. The smallest units, DF Mini and DF Mini Duo, are also ideal for asbestos removal and can be used for indoor works.
